New Gen Designers At London Fashion Week

New Generation (Newgen) is a scheme created by the British fashion council and sponsored by Topshop; it showcases and promotes new talented designers. Alaxander Mcqueen, Mary Katranzou and Matthew Williamson, to name but a few, have all been on the scheme prevously - so it's pretty exciting to see these new designers. Only i had no idea beforehand about these designers, or about Newgen (shame on me). But, I am so amazed, happy, inspired that i got to see these emerging designers' collections at the fashion haven that is Somerset house, i feel so privileged. My dad used his best communication skills to persuade the security guard to let us into one of the Somerset house rooms, (honestly don't know how he does it) and next thing i knew there were cool, style-savvy industry workers dotted around us, surveying the clothes, organising their LFW schedules and sipping coffee. I'v been told i look older than i am, so hopefully i didn't look too out of place, all the same i didn't really know how to talk to the designers, or how to act and i definitely didn't take as many photos as i should have. I was baffled. Was it okay to touch the clothes? To move them for a photo? How much can i express my adoration of the clothes without looking like the over-eager school student i am?

Liam Fahy

I started off looking at Liam Fahy's Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, a show designer who produced his first range of shoes in 2011. These shoes fulled my love for Liam Fahy shoes, just look at them. The dalmatian print is beyond cool, especially on a wedged heel: comfy and covetable.

The last pair of shoes pictured were fitted with crystal lights in the company's factory in Venice. A time consuming venture, with a dazzling result. If ever there was a shoe tailored made for the night, this was it. They are just beyond cool.

Huishan Zhang

I can't express enough how much i love Huishan Zhang's designs. I knew from the moment i laid eyes on his Autumn/Winter collection that this was the beginning of a fashion love affair. His work is genius. Born in China, you can see the Chinese influence on his designs: with oriental lace creeping over the designs and thick black lines contrasting with classic tailoring. There is a strong sense of modern femininity with Zhang's collection: it's chic and luxurious, yet fresh and futuristic. Black felt and metal stripes injected an element of cool into the collection, while the cornflower blue and soft cream kept things perfectly pretty. These were said clothes i felt too inferior to move for a 'good angle', but another person was happily shifting the clothes along the clothing rack so i joined in. I saved the best till last for you, with the dreamy dress encapsulating Zhang's ability to combine old with new, cool with class - my dad loved it so much i think he was close to stripping it off the mannequin and making a run with it!  I have to admit  i want to wear EVERYTHING in his Autumn/Winter collection, it's all just so beautiful, yet so damn cool. Enjoy the Newgen designer's marvelous creations, enjoy.
