Fashion Trends

*Below is spoof wikipedia entry, the events/people/places are purely fictional. I find trends fascinating, with their power to make us like things we probably would never touch usually, so I thought I would write a spoof document. I hope it brings you some amusement.*

Definition:  a prevailing style of dress consumed by the mass and reflective/influenced by current times.”

Where did fashion trends derive from?
It is estimated that fashion trends came into play around the same time that the idea of clothes came about, approximately one hundred thousand years ago.
Animal skins, leaves and bones were fashioned by the cave-dwellers in numerous ways; eventually it was realised that involving one’s self in the current “craze” made one more appealing to the opposite sex and to fellow tribe members, who could become friends and meet to discuss the latest leaf-sarong etc.

Influence could be found from freshly discovered plants or animals which were the current talk of the community. One exciting discovery in the cave man’s community was The Red Dianthus, which inspired a crimson red hype. Using animal blood to dye leaves or else sticking the flowers to their clothing; everyone was wearing crimson red.

What were and are the consequences of not being ‘In’?
In the cave man times, if you were not seen to be sporting, “the colour of the season” you were met with a wry smile and then pelted with a stick or stones.
Similar abuse can be seen in the current day with the death of Rogue fashion assistant, Miranda Landsinelo in 2013, who wore pastel blue instead of the much-coveted cobalt blue of the season to the offices one day.

The girl’s stiletto-pelted body was found in the magazine’s fashion cellar four days after, where it was found to be the Vogue’s hiding place of 26 “fashion offenders who failed to be down with it and were an abomination not just to the company but to society in general.”  The International Trend Society reports. In April 2014 they reported that the girls had been removed from the building so as not to release "unfashionable vibes into the air".

Who dictates what we will all ‘be feeling’ in fashion?
The term “last season” was derived from the cave man era. One Winter, approximately eighty thousand years ago, historians report that the saber tooth tiger was discovered in the Hinsono tribe’s region. The discovery of the Tiger lead to a flurry of slayings as everyone sought to wear the latest skin. If you were seen wearing the latest predator, you would be known for your “courageous” (Latin for courage). The select few with the capacity to obtain such bodily-coverage were then put in an authoritarian elite and were permitted to dictate what every cave man would be ‘feeling’ come Winter through markings on the Palmopama tree giving direction.
Later, markings even revealed apparent fashion faux pas, with certain cave-dwellers revealing a little too much in their leaf ensembles and others even daring to wear Mammoth: which was hugely frowned on in the communities across the globe as it was considered to be ‘frumyaous’ aka fumpy.

In the modern day the trend forecasting is devised in a similar manner, with the tribe leaders at Elle and Vogue presenting potential inspiration and current influence for designers and consumers alike, illustrating written and visual stimulus on glossy-coated paper. These inspirations are often new, but when lacking in inspiration, drawing on previous eras for lack of imagination and innovation. The designers then are permitted to sew the influence presented to them in their idiosyncratic ways which present individual visions of the ‘craze’ and the fight to forefront the trend begins as certain interpretations of said ‘feeling’ and ‘craze’ appeal to different folk about the globe.
